ON THEIR DREAMS ANNUAL 2026: FOR DREAMING

Release date: 21 December 2026

BLURB

The inaugral annual issue stages an architectural proposition by Lungelo Mchunu: the unpreservation of a 1970s Modernist coastal apartment through ritual choreography. In conversation with What Has Two Eyes and Too Many Ears?, an inquiry into the repossession of functional heirlooms held captive in museums and private collections, the annual asks what it means to dream a building, and its objects, back into use.

CONTRIBUTOR BIO

Based out of KwaZulu, Southern Africa, mixed-media artist Lungelo Mchunu employs a diverse range of mediums—from digital illustration to painting and textiles—to address omissions within the historical archive. Through stop-motion storytelling, he acts as an interpolator, a concept he borrows from the music industry's practice of rerecording samples. This  framework allows him to creatively re-record and recontextualize fragments of history into a new, compelling body of work.
